Many services gathered at the Rylstone Showground to entertain and inform for the Rylstone Family Fun Day on Wednesday. Proceedings commenced with a Welcome to Country by Peter Swain, a descendent of the Dabee clan and Wiradjuri Nation, who performed a Smoking Ceremony.
The event was co-ordinated by Marie Hensley for the Mid-Western Regional Council and Rylstone/ Kandos Inter Agency. "(It is an opportunity) for all services and agencies to put on a family event" said Ms Hensley, "while it's still a fun event."
Services that took part include:
- Emergency services
- Mid-Western Regional Council
- Disability Advocacy NSW
- Australian Red Cross
- Barnardos
- MWRC Mudgee Recycling
- Health One
- Housing Plus
- Rylstone/ Kandos Preschool
- Charles Sturt University
- Serenity Trike Adventures
Each service featured activities for children and adults alike while providing valuable information. There was barbeque, a coffee van, fun trike rides and a DJ providing music. The event featured children's passports obtained on entrance in which they recorded activities they took part in throughout the day. Completion of the passports put them in draw for a chance to win a pool family season pass thanks to Mid-Western Regional Council. There was also fruit available at stalls around the arena.
The barbecue was provided by the Rylstone/ Kandos branch of Rotary with sausage sandwiches for a gold coin donation. Meat ball cups, tea and coffee, fruit juice and other drinks were also available.
Event sponsors were MWRC for use of venue and season ticket to pool, Kandos Charity Shop for face painting and trike rides, Rylstone Rotary Club for cooking and Discotex, and Coles, Woolworths and Aldi of Mudgee, and IGA Kandos for food.
Rylstone Family Fun Day is held annually. Put it in your calendar for next year. Story and photographs by Jason Roberts.
