A premier Dragonbating event coming to Mudgee might be your best chance to find out.
In an exciting first, the Mudgee region will play host to the Annual Western Region Dragon Boat Regatta in early November.
Plans are underway for the 11th Annual Western Region Dragon Boat Regatta to be held at Cudgegong Waters Park at Windamere Dam on Sunday 3rd November 2019 with members of the Western Region Committee inspecting Windamere Dam ahead of the event.
Mudgee Dragonboat Committee Coordinator, Jen Consadine said all the behind the scenes organisation details had been taken care of and all that was required was to recruit community teams to take part.
"We are absolutely thrilled the aquatic licence for the event has been granted and safety plans with Mudgee SES and St John Ambulance are being finalised," Jen said.
"We have had lots of interest from other dragon boat clubs keen to take part and all we need now are community teams to get involved."
"People who train together will find this a great team building exercise. Every team gets a training session with their local club included in the regatta fee,"
"The key is to paddle in time rather than use brute strength," she said.
Where, how much and who can take part?
Fees:
- $25 for adults.
- $10 for juniors.
Entry includes a training session, use of a boat, paddles and life jackets on the day, and a sweep and drummer assigned to your boat for racing.
The fee also includes safety measures with Mudgee SES providing water safety and St John Ambulance providing first aid during the Regatta.
We want to hear from teams who want to give dragon boating a go and it is also a great sport for spectators - so make a day of it.
- Mudgee Dragonboat Committee Coordinator, Jen Consadine
All fitness levels are welcome, however people must be over the age of 12 to take part in the sport.
