The Late Mail Postie Bike Ride has been dealt a crushing blow on the eve of their return to Mudgee on Saturday.
In the early morning of Friday, October 18, the group was the victim of a theft which saw several bikes, helmets and other items including donations.
In an interview with ABC Radio, Mudgee's Ken Ross, who travels in a support vehicle in the Postie Ride said the group was gutted.
Well., we woke up this morning. We had two big support vehicles ransacked, a donation bucket with roughly $2,500 stolen, we had three motorbikes stolen, two helmets stolen, tools stolen," he said.
"We're gutted. We're 49 riders, one of the blokes, he's 65-years-old, this was going to be his last year and they've stolen his motorbike."
In a post on social media, the riders say the theft won't deter them.
'It is greatly disappointing that there are some individuals that don't appreciate what we do,' the post read.
'We are seeking your help to retrieve 3 of our riders bikes that were stolen in Forster last night. We have also had numerous other items stolen from our riders and support crew as well as donation tins. Please contact Forster Police if you have any information.'
'This has not dampened the spirits of The Late Mail Team. Our good work for Wings4Kidz will continue.'
At the time of writing, the online fundraiser was less than $500 shy of their $150,000 goal.
