A Gulgong man charged with possessing a prohibited drug, when he was the passenger in a car stopped for random breath and drug testing, was fined $110.
Mark Ian Papworth, aged 32, of Fitzroy Street, Gulgong, pleaded guilty to the matter in Mudgee Local Court last week.
Police stopped the vehicle in Bell Street, Mudgee, at about 10.50am on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
A check of the driver's licence revealed information of interest to officers and during questioning Papworth - who they noted appeared nervous and was fidgeting - admitted to using drugs.
They searched the vehicle and found a children's backpack in the passenger footwell, which contained one gram of cannabis.
Magistrate David Day told the defendant that "it'll be a long time before [the drug] is legalised for small amounts".
"It's not legal - let alone compulsory, even in Gulgong - to carry marijuana in a child's backpack that has a green and blue frog motif," he said, having read the details submitted to court.
