More information captured from ticketholders shows the remaining 33 per cent of attendees were locals with 24 per cent travelling from Sydney suburbs, 10 per cent from Wollongong and suburbs, and the remaining 3 per cent from interstate.
Mayor of the Mid-Western Region, Des Kennedy said the entire weekend, including the Gulgong Show and Country Championships Race Meet at Mudgee Racecourse, provided major economic benefits to the region's economy.
More from the mega weekend:
"From preliminary survey data we estimate approximately $1.78 million was spent in the region over the weekend, at restaurants and cafes, retailers and accommodation providers," Cr Kennedy said.
"Overall attendees reported a positive game day experience which is a fantastic outcome for Council's team that works hard to improve on each event, this year hosting more return shuttle buses than ever before as well as food vendors.
"In post-event surveys, the majority of Charity Shield ticketholders further revealed they attended other events over the weekend including the Country Championships and Gulgong Show, as well as local cellar doors, parks, museums, cafes and restaurants."
Council will host the 2021 Charity Shield as part of a four year partnership with the St George Illawarra Dragons and South Sydney Rabbitohs with a date yet to be announced.
