There is a lot of information out there, it can seem difficult to stay on top of the latest advice. We hope this page will be useful to you in finding specific and relevant health advice if you live in the Mudgee region.
According to the World Health Organisation, coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that potentially cause illness to humans and animals.
The disease can be transferred from person to person through contaminated droplets that can be distributed by coughing or sneezing, or by contact with contaminated hands, surfaces or objects.
The most important thing to remember with COVID-19 is that in order to limit your exposure, good hygiene and isolation must be practiced.
Symptoms
What are the symptoms?
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Diarrhea
- Cough
- Fever
- Pneumonia
- Difficulty breathing (severe cases)
Who is most at risk?
While it is still relatively unconfirmed, people with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, high blood pressure, cancer or diabetes tend to be more at risk.
However, at this stage, people who have been in contact with a person with COVID-19 or been overseas in the last 14 days should seek medical attention or self isolate.
How can I limit my chance of infection?
- Self-isolate yourself by limiting your trips outside to public areas
- Practice good hygiene by regularly and thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
- Social distancing by ensuring at least a metre distance is between yourself and anyone coughing or sneezing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Follow respiratory hygiene such as coughing into your bent elbow
When to seek medical attention?
If you've been or have been in contact with someone who has overseas in the past 14 days and experience any symptoms, seek medical advice, ensuring to phone ahead.
