Adriana Smith of Station Street, Rooty Hill, was fined $220 for the charge of 'Possess prohibited drug'.
At about 11.45pm on Friday, December 27, 2019, police were patrolling near the intersection of Market and Douro streets when a vehicle came to their attention. Firstly by appearing to travel over the 50km/h speed limit and secondly by failing to give way to them at the roundabout.
After stopping the vehicle, they approached the driver Smith, who was seen concealing an item within her clothing.
The 27-year-old appeared to be nervous while handing over her licence, as was her passenger. They said they were travelling to Wellington to visit someone at the correctional centre.
Information revealed by a check of her identity, along with the pair's demeanor, were enough to convince officers to conduct a search. Once this was declared, Smith demanded to go to the toilet.
They told her they suspected she'd hidden something in her clothes and she handed over a package containing 1.47g of methamphetamine. Which she admitted to concealing but denied owning.
When the matter was before Magistrate David Day last Wednesday, he noted that the defendant's record contained intimidation, breaching AVOs, and driving offences. He then added, "she doesn't have a history of drugs - but she does now".
