Strict NSW Health and Bowls NSW guidelines were enforced throughout the three days play.
Among the top 30 junior bowlers in the zone who were selected for the zone junior championships, were local Gulgong bowlers Patrick Butlin, Jeremy Wood and Lachlan Thompson.
On day one, the singles championship was played and after the group stages, Gulgong's Lachlan Thompson was one of the sectional winners.
After the quarter finals, the semi finals saw James Robinson (West Dubbo) play Lachlan (Gulgong), and unfortunately James proved too strong for Lachlan and won 22-13.
On day two, the pairs title was played, and after preliminary rounds, the first semi final was played between Jeremy Wood (Gulgong) and Cooper McMullen (Dubbo Macquarie), and Josh Toby and Tom Ashley (Trangie), while Sam and Tom Bowman (Coonabarabran) were against Lachlan Thompson (Gulgong) and Tom Rich (Mudgee) in the other semi-final.
Jeremy Wood and Cooper McMullen won on the last bowl in their game, while Lachlan Thompson and Tom Rich were too good for the Bowman brothers, winning 15-7.
The final saw Wood and McMullen causing an upset over Thompson and Rich winning 8-7 in a match that had the onlookers on the edge of their seats.
The last day's play was the fours championship where six teams contested a round-robin event, with the winner determined by the greatest number of wins.
The 'gun' team of James Robinson (West Dubbo), Lachlan Thompson (Gulgong), Tom Rich (Mudgee) and Tom Bowman (Coonabarabran) went through undefeated to claim the title.
Following the championships, the zone 4 junior selectors came up with 14 bowlers including the Gulgong boys, Lachlan Thompson and Jeremy Wood who would contest in the state 7-a-side championships to be held at Club Dubbo over the October long weekend.
The squad will have a trial at Club Dubbo on Sunday, August 30 to further their skills and give the selectors a chance to choose the final team to represent the zone in the state 7-a-side Championships.
