The woman was hiking with friends on the island's Great Walk trail when she became separated from the group.
Police say the woman was last seen about 3pm on Thursday.
When her friends noticed she was missing they retraced their steps before police were called about 7pm.
"There was communication at about 7.30pm last night but unfortunately the mobile phone is believed to be flat at this stage," Maryborough Acting Patrol Group Inspector Brooke Flood said.
An air and land search was launched but was called off about 10pm before resuming early on Friday.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are also assisting to scour a region on the island known as the Valley of the Giants.
"It's quite dense scrub around that area so that's why we're using all available methods," Insp Flood said, including trail bikes, helicopters and people on foot.
The experienced hiker had a "small amount of food and water" and is believed to be in good health.
