The Bureau of Meteorology says widespread rainfall of 10-20mm is expected on Saturday which could lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the state's northwest.
North-easterly winds with damaging gust of 90-100km/h are expected over higher areas such as the Grampians and central highlands on Saturday afternoon, extending into alpine areas early Sunday.
The State Emergency Service is advising residents who may travel or camp over the weekend to monitor conditions.
"We encourage people to avoid setting up camp under trees or on low-lying areas alongside creeks or rivers," Commander David Tucek said.
He said residents should clean their gutters, downpipes and drains to prevent blockages and clear loose items from backyards.
Coronavirus restrictions in the state's country areas were eased on Thursday, allowing greater social freedom and many businesses to re-open.
