From the outside looking in, things may appear to be all fine and dandy, but behind the scenes reveals a different story.
'The show must go on' but without dedicated members who give up their personal time to better a community club, the show will be no more and that's what the Mudgee Dragons are coming to terms with.
The club has existed to be a tremendous part of countless people's lives and Mudgee Dragons club president Sebastian Flack says they will now face the fate others now find themselves in due to a severe lack of committee numbers.
"We need more of our loyal supporters and ex-players to put their hands up to volunteer as committee members and to roll share, or our club looks to fade out like others in the area," he said.
"Whilst the playing talent and numbers are strong, early indication of people willing to volunteer does not.
"Without the volunteers, as much as the players want to play - they simply wouldn't be able to."
The club will host their AGM on November 7 where roles will be filled, each hosting their own responsibilities while others have the option to be shared. Those up for grabs include:
- President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Registrar
- Media
- Group 10 liaison
- Canteen coordinator
- Merchandise officer
- Sponsorship manager
- Functions coordinator
- Supporter club retention
- Ground Manager
- Council liaison
- Videographer
"There are some of the same people that keep putting their hands up, but it's more the revolving door of volunteers getting burnt out from doing more than one job due to lack of numbers," Flack said.
"We want to see this club thrive out of COVID and give the community something positive to participate in and support, and without more contribution we are at risk of it falling over.
I think that onlookers may see that the club is winning or successful so everything must be ok, but it's not and we need your help.
- Mudgee Dragons club president, Sebastian Flack
The Mudgee Dragons AGM will be held at Club Mudgee on Saturday, November 7 from 5pm.
"Anything you can do to help take some load off and help this club continue on and grow will be much appreciated. We cannot do it without volunteers," Flack said.
