Normally the celebration of the history and culture of Australia's First Nation Peoples is held in July. However, in the interest of community safety, the National NAIDOC Committee moved the week to November 8-15 for 2020.
On Monday, Kandos students were lucky enough to meet Peter Swain, Dabee Traditional Owner who addressed the school at a special assembly. Peter did workshops on connections, song, dance, tools and weapons.
Peter then met the infants students at Red Hill Environment Centre for more incredible activities.

Students also went on excursions to Dubbo and Wellington with Indigenous perspectives that were then consolidated by classroom activities.
On Wednesday, students attended the Kandos Museum for a Flag Raising Ceremony along with students from Kandos High School and community members.
To wrap up the week, Peter and special guests performed a smoking ceremony, then students painted a canvas telling the narrative of their NAIDOC week.
The theme for NAIDOC Week 2020 was 'Always Was, Always Will Be', recognising that First Nations peoples have occupied and cared for the continent for over 65,000 years.
