After five years in a row of putting his hat in the ring, the time has finally come for Hamish Lynn to be included in the makeup of the Central West under 14s squad for the NSW Youth Championships.
The Mudgee under 14s representative captain was selected as part of a squad of 20 made up of town representatives that have stood out, who were submitted to three trials with coaches testing fielding, batting, bowling, core strength, fitness and beyond.
And, much to Hamish's surprise, his efforts have finally paid off.
"It is absolutely exhilarating and exciting. I can't wait to play amongst such skilled and experienced cricketers. It will be such a great experience and extremely fun," Hamish said.
"I wasn't expecting to make it at all, there are so many great players in our district. I'm looking forward to playing among great people and talented cricketers, as well as the challenge of playing against so many capable players.
It is a great achievement and makes me extremely happy to have finally made the team.
- Hamish Lynn
Hamish first tried his hand at cricket when he was four, and after taking a step back for a few years, Lynn has been in the thick of the sport since he was eight and hasn't looked back since.
"Cricket is challenging but fun to play amongst your great friends. Through cricket I have been able to make more friends from many towns both near and far," he said.
Following training sessions in Bathurst with the full squad, Central West's first game in the NSW Youth Championships will be on December 13 at Orange.
Soon after, a four day carnival (December 18-21) will be hosted at Dubbo with six teams from across the state attending.
"It is going to be hard but rewarding," Hamish said.
"Go Central West!"
