The funding is part of the Commonwealth and NSW Government's Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF).
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders announced the Mid-Western Regional Council will receive a quarter of a million dollars to manage a community grants program.
The funding will also allow for an upgrade to the Mudgee Regional Airport runway in an effort to improve access and capability in preparation for any potential future disasters.
"Mudgee is one of the growing hubs of regional NSW, and we saw during the horrific summer of bushfires not only how close it came to being the scene of a disaster, but also how active it was in the statewide response," Mr Saunders said.
"This funding identifies that upgrades to the town's infrastructure will allow the people of the region to play an even bigger role in responding in the future."
Mid-Western Regional Council general manager Brad Cam said with $62,000 available for programs from the funding, community groups are encouraged to put forward any suggestions.
"It's up to community groups to come to council and make some suggestions and offers. There is no particular projects or programs that are in mind, it's there for community groups to get support from council on," he said.
"The one hundred and eighty eight thousand dollars will go towards the upgrading of the runway so we are fit for purpose, ready for bushfire resilience."
