Hosted in Rylstone and Kandos on Saturday, 13 March, the Fermenta Festival will be a celebration of the art of fermentation by local producers. From sauerkraut to kombucha, small batch beers and fine wines to chocolate and cheese.
The day-long festival will feature a variety of events beginning with food and wine markets and entertainment in Kandos.
Local producers will host small group workshops on their field of fermentation including Breakfast with an Alpaca, Wild Stories Foraging Guide, Kombucha Demonstration, How to Make Honey Ginger Beer, Sourdough Crumpets Workshop, Chocolate Fermentation, Kombucha Brewing Workshop, Traditional Sauerkraut Demonstration plus many more.
"The thing about fermentation is that it underpins our relationship to food, to land and to life - it happens in our bodies, in our food and in the soil that makes all life possible," Cementa Creative Director, Alex Wisser said.
"It is also an intimate part of what makes life worth living, of the good things in life, the food and drink that we share socially, that bring pleasure and joy. Fermentation, if you think about it, is the foundation of how we celebrate life, so why wouldn't we want to celebrate the process that brings us so much joy."
The festival will finish with its feature event, a Twilight Picnic on the banks of the Cudgegong River at the Rylstone Showground.
"Fermenta is a fantastic event for the region bringing together some of our premier food and beverage producers," Council's Acting General Manager, Simon Jones said.
"Council and its event partners have worked hard to deliver something for everyone with a variety of activities throughout the day."
