Roses continue to be the flower of choice for Valentine's Day bouquets this year. Interestingly, most roses sold in Mudgee have been imported from Colombia, while some are Australian grown.

"It's the most romantic day of the year, and roses are the most romantic flower," Kelly from Mudgee Florist on Church said, "I still remember the person that ever sent me my first dozen red roses - it just stays with you.

"It's really good, we've seen a lot of young guys come in which is fantastic. It melts your heart - it's beautiful."

"There is a current trend of everyday flowers because they last longer than roses," Carleen from Forget Me Not said, "and the prices are far better than roses."

Pete Mchenery, also from Forget Me Not said despite being on a Sunday, Valentine's Day still saw a solid day of sales.

"I can't speak for other florists, but for us Sunday was a solid day," he said.

"It was busy without being crazy and pretty much what I expected. It was much busier for pre-orders and that sort of thing, that was a bit of a surprise.

"Last year we had a very big Valentine's Day because it was a Friday last year, and a week day is always far better."

"I only get a limited amount of roses in, the orders I have got are for roses, but we also do other things up as well," Cearna from Flower Obsession said.

"We will just see what happens... we have plenty of chocolates and plenty of flowers."

Love doesn't discriminate with Mudgee locals of all ages having participated in the day of love.

"Last year I had a young boy come in and get a red rose for his mum - it was cute", Alyce from Mudgee Florist on Church said.

"Last year we had people out the door waiting."
