This is the jewel in the crown for the club and the two bowlers that competed for the championship had never reached the final before.
The game was a classic competition between two draw bowlers with the lead changing several times in what turned out to be a very tight tussle with some very entertaining and spectacular bowls being produced.
There can only be one winner and at the end of the day, only two shots separated the pair, with Steve Caldwell winning his first Major Singles title 31 shots to 29 over Garvin.
Both players need to be congratulated for the excellent bowls they played during the competition.
In other bowls news, the pennants season is past the half way point in the competition and all three of the Mudgee sides played last Sunday.
A very good win by the 3s over Dubbo Macquarie 76 to 49. This gives the 3s an outside chance of still topping the section in their last game next week.
The 5s were not so successful in their game, going down 71 to 63 against Dubbo City. The 5s will be looking for a big win in their final round next week.
The 7s travelled to Yeoval last weekend and found the going very difficult to handle going down 74 to 42.
In what has been a lack lustre season for the 7s, they will be hoping for a far improved performance against their arch rivals, Gulgong, at Mudgee this Sunday (March 7).
