Council propose reduced speed zones across Mudgee CBD

According to a press release issued by Council, the proposal is to introduce a 40km/h High Pedestrian Activity Area (HPAA) as part of a strategy to reduce the statistics of crashes involving pedestrians.

Streets identified by Council for the proposal include:

Mid-Western Regional Council director of operations, Garry Hemsworth said the reduced speed zones are a benefit to all members of the local community.

"Managing speed is a key component in managing pedestrian safety. It also enhances the liveability, amenity and economic success of communities," Mr Hemsworth said.

"Introducing a 40km/h HPAA will improve mobility within the CBD, encourage walking and cycling, and improve conditions for mobility-impaired groups."

According to Mr Hemsworth, the reduced speed zones are expected to be installed in June, 2021 which will be signaled by speed regulatory signs and road markings that will be in place at the entrance and exit points of the HPAA zones.

In addition to the reduced speed areas, lines for angled car park spaces will be installed onto the previously unmarked sections of Market Street and Mortimer Street to aid with parking.
