Greg was well known in the Mid-Western Region as a footballing legend and highly involved community member.
As a teenager he was chosen from the Mudgee juniors to represent Western Division Under 18s, then selected for the NSW Country 18s representative team.
Still a teen, he trialled with Canterbury-Bankstown, and scored six tries in one game.
Playing for the senior Mudgee club, he won a premiership in 1986 alongside former Parramatta first graders Ron Hilditch and Phil Mann, and Scott Mieni who would go on to play Sydney first grade.
Greg moved to Kandos to raise his family and finished his footballing days with Kandos Waratahs, many times playing match-winning roles for his team.
He was a member of many sport committees and was instrumental in reviving the Kandos Rugby League team in 2005. As a token of appreciation for his work, the club gave him a life membership.
Less than 10 years ago Greg became ill, and passed away at 55 with scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease that affects the skin.
His children, Jamie and Emma have organised a memorial charity golf day to commemorate their father's life and achievements and to raise funds for charity.
"Dad was not a flashy man, so we are keeping the event close to grassroots, we're going back to basics with a game of golf, and a beer and lots of fun and laughter afterwards," Jamie Moore said.
The proceeds of the day will go to the Rylstone Hospital and local sporting clubs, places for which Greg was deeply thankful.
"He loved the joys you get out of seeing your kids and other kids succeed, and just seeing the community succeed," Jamie said.
"It makes me very proud that so many people looked up to him and are thankful for all he did."
"We are inviting anyone interested in attending this memorial day to come along and help contribute a little something for those more unfortunate. Also an invitation to all his old friends, not the least all his old footballing buddies."
Everyone in the community are encouraged to attend the event.
