From turning the chairs of judges Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Keith Urban in the blind editions, to making the top five in Team Keith, Lau is "stoked" to have gone further to be named a semi-final contender.
"I for sure thought I didn't stand a chance," Lau said.
"I'm up against so many talented artists and I honestly felt like I didn't do enough in the knockouts but obviously I did because I made the semi-finals."
While teaming up with Keith Urban may not have been the obvious choice, Lau said it was an easy decision once she heard what he had to say.
"I feel like we get along on a deep musical level, we really relate to each other and he's helped a lot. I made the right decision picking Keith," Lau said.
"I'm sure a lot of people when they watched my blind audition wouldn't expect that I would pick him but what Keith said to me on the day spoke to my soul.
I couldn't be more grateful because we're now going to the semi-finals.

Lau described performing on The Voice as both a 'daunting' and electric experience, and added that the semis only add to the nerves.
"It's definitely daunting but you just get this rush of adrenaline and honestly, the stage feels like a home to me," she said.
"It's really, really cool. You're on stage with the band and everyone, they're all so talented. It's a wild time.
"I'm nervous about the semi-finals but honestly I'm so excited, I feel like it's a great song choice and I'm ready to blow it out of the park."
Lau will join Arlo in representing Team Keith this Sunday when The Voice continues at 7.00pm on Channel 7.
"I know that Mudgee is rooting for me all the way. I see all the messages and I couldn't be more grateful for the support and love," Lau said.
"I'm sending all my love to Mudgee."
