Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) introduced the Staff Specialist positions with those occupying the roles to be responsible for the provision of clinical services, quality and safety.
WNSWLHD Chief Executive, Scott McLachlan said the roles, which will also be available at Lachlan health service, "have a lot of advantages".
"This includes the opportunity to teach both staff and students, and to participate in system improvement activities across a broad range of hospital operations including management, quality and safety, clinical services and governance, and both coordination and continuity of care," he said.
"Mudgee and Lachlan health services provide procedural opportunities in obstetrics, anaesthetics and surgery, and visiting specialists attend both services regularly, providing opportunities for collaboration and growth.
"The Rural Generalists will work in a team with colleagues locally and across services, for mentorship and support. As a well-connected LHD and one of the leading innovators invirtual health, the role receives support from our virtual services.
"Participation in the hospital on-call roster is required, but it remains easy to make the most of all the lifestyle advantages of regional living with appropriate work-life balance. There is also a generous remuneration package available."
Between mid-2012 and mid-2021, WNSWLHD increased its workforce by an additional 614 full-time equivalent staff - an increase of 12.8 per cent including 107 more doctors, 210 more nurses and midwives and 71 more allied health staff.
