With council elections nearing this a good time to write. Many may remember me as a candidate at the 2015 and 2019 State elections. I ran in those elections not because I thought I could win, but to inform the community the need for urgent action on climate change. I tried during those campaigns to tell people that every decision at every level should factor in the effects of climate change.

It is no comfort to me that all I have said has been vindicated; most recently in Glasgow. Unfortunately there are those that still don't get it.
We are heading into uncertain times with daunting challenges. We have now started to see first hand the effects of climate change. The world is transitioning away from fossil fuels and this alone will have a significant impact on our small community.
I would like to see councillors that do get it, that have climate change factored into their decision making, that realise that the need for action is now and not in thirty years time. That there will be dramatic changes to our local economy. That those councillors recognise and are preparing for those changes.
Unfortunately the outgoing council didn't understand this. We had a council that was 100 per cent ALL committed to the Bylong Valley coal project a project rejected for multiple reasons.
I hope that people of this region factor that in when they go to the polls. I would like to see new fresh faces that are prepared to take on the challenges we face.
