In a push to 'move with the times', Mudgee Golf Club broke away from tradition on November 13, hosting the men's and women's club championships on the same day.
Traditionally, women have played their club championships during the week with men on the weekend, however, club captain Ben Newsome said it was time for all members to be accommodated.
"The club, in an effort to move with the times and accommodate women in the workforce, saw it as necessary to make this change," he said.
"We're trying to cater for all needs of our members, particularly the females, and that's the undertone of what these championships were about, bringing the club together and removing the stigma of 'it's a men's club with women attached to it'.
"It's a necessary change, there's no point moving forward if you're only going to step back."
The day's success "speaks for itself" with one of the highest attendance totals for a competition with equal prize money across men and women.
"The club has moved to Medley style competitions which means men and women play in the same competition midweek and on weekends. It allows couples to compete with and against each other," Newsome said.
"There's no divide anymore, we don't live in that world anymore, those days are done.
"All in all it was a fantastic competition albeit the weather, it tried to spoil the party but the atmosphere at the club was irreplaceable."
It is likely this format will continue for years to come.
