The five-year-old mare had shown plenty of promise when running six placings in seven starts since arriving at Brett Robb's Dubbo stables but a victory had evaded her.
That changed on Friday when she combined with jockey Clayton Gallagher to win the Hamilton Island Country Maiden Showcase Plate (1200m) at Mudgee Race Club.
While the current run had been frustrating at times for Robb, the benefit of winning on Friday was it came in a $40,000 showcase event.
"Coming around the turn he (Gallagher) got a little luck, the gap opened up and she was too good for them," Robb said post-race.
"It's really good, especially on a day like today. We've been happy she's been running those second and thirds."
In the news:
It was an impressive run home from Lipstick Lil ($8), who powered along down the straight under the riding of Gallagher to nab victory from Louisiana Iris ($8.50) and Skye Lover ($41).
Robb's partner, Maddy Wright, was also delighted as the pair are the owners of Lipstick Lil and the prizemoney is going towards their wedding.
"To get married where she wants to get married we needed to win today," Robb added.
"A normal TAB wouldn't be enough but we've been targeting this for the last three weeks.
"If we won this one at Mudgee we could get the right wedding venue."
The win for Robb came in the third event of the bumper day at Mudgee and was the first for western area trainers.
Warwick Farm-based Matthew Smith trained the winner of the first, Euphrates Dream ($3.10), before Thundozer ($3.6) impressed in the second for Muswellbrook trainer Andy Perrett.
