LEADERS: (Women): Teenage gun Rachel Lee shares the first-round lead at six-under 67, with South Korea's Jenny Shin. Jiyai Shin (68) trails by one, with South Africa's Ashleigh Buhai and local Steph Kyriacou tied fourth.
PLAYER OF THE ROUND: If you reckoned a Lee would be leading after day one, chances are you would have got short odds on it being Min Woo or his sister Minjee. But 16-year-old year 10 student Rachel Lee - no relation - stole their thunder. Registering eight birdies and showing stroke play beyond her years, the Sydney teenager finished six-under.
SHOT OF THE ROUND: Ayaka Sugihara's hole-in-one on the 11th at The Australian. The Japanese struck her 7-iron with inch-perfect precision on the 144-metre par three.
STAT OF THE ROUND: Cameron Davis equalled the course record at The Lakes with a bogey-free nine-under 63 only to find out his effort, which matched John Senden (2011), didn't stand due to the fact lies were allowed after Wednesday night's heavy rain.
QUOTE OF THE ROUND: "There's definitely something to build on there" - Cameron Smith attempts to see the silver lining after responding from his struggles in Queensland last week. Smith carded a one-under 71 at The Lakes and heads to The Australian on Friday.
TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: Teen sensation Rachel Lee catapulted herself from obscurity and into the spotlight after sharing the lead on the first day in the women's draw. She will head to The Australian on Friday with the likes of Minjee Lee (70) and reigning champion Ashleigh Buhai on her tail. In the men's competition, Cameron Davis (63) is in the box seat in the men's draw with Min Woo Lee (67) his nearest homegrown challenger.
