A woman was killed in a serious crash south-east of Mudgee that closed the Castlereagh Highway in both directions on Friday afternoon.

The multi-vehicle crash occurred at Aaron's Pass south-east of Mudgee just beyond Windamere Dam a little after 2pm on Friday afternoon, April 5. Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District attended and found a utility and an SUV had collided.
A 32-year-old woman, who was a front-seat passenger in the SUV, was critically injured. She was taken to Mudgee Hospital but died a short time later.
The driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old man, and the front-seat passenger in the ute, a 68-year-old man, were seriously injured and were airlifted to Westmead Hospital.
Two girls, aged two and six, who were back seat passengers in the SUV, were taken by road ambulance to The Children's Hospital at Westmead. They are described as being in a stable condition.
The driver of the ute, aged 54, was taken to Mudgee Hospital with minor injuries and for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established and investigations are now underway into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
The Castlereagh Highway was closed to all traffic but has since reopened.
