Kicking off the all important touch season, Mudgee Mudcrabs will head to Nelson Bay this weekend in a bid to kick start their representative season at the all important Hornets Championships.

Up against 60 teams from Western, Hunter and Central Coast regions, the Mixed Open’s and Women’s 30’s Mudgee sides will have to play strength to strength to total some wins.
Publicity Officer for Mudgee Touch Ben Harris, says both teams must secure wins in order to get to the unpredictable finals.
“If we can tag a couple of wins in our pool, then that will set us up for the finals,” he said.
When it comes to the finals, anything can happen.

With solid training sessions for approximately six weeks, coupled with finishing eighth in the State Comp last year, the mixed side are flying high.
“Hopefully we can take that momentum from last year and move further on.”
Although the women’s 30’s side team make up may have a few additions, it’s more about fun for the ladies and proving to be role models.
“This side is more about getting out there and having fun.”
“Most of the ladies are mothers which is a great thing to see. To be able to play rep and have kids is impressive.”

Justin Gossage is expected to shine in the senior touch football event being named “our big gun”, alongside Liz O’brien, Kiera Rayner and Grace Quinn in the mixed side.
As for some key players in the women’s team, Kerry Reynolds and Jess Cubis are the ones to watch.
In two weeks time, the mixed side will head to Wollongong to play in the Country Championships, then assuming success, the State Cup in Port Macquarie in December.
