Adding to their usual Sunday paddling at Windamere Dam, the MudDragons have introduced night paddling.
MudDragons Assistant Secretary Julie Wilson says the new activity allows more people to dedicate time to the sport with little interference with other commitments.
“Night paddling doesn’t interfere with weekend sports and family time,” Wilson said.
“It’s a lovely relaxation to do after work, and is lovely on the river.”
Perhaps one of the benefits of dragon boating is the idea that it’s a team sport and can be participated by people of all ages.
“As it’s a team sport, it’s not reliant on just your sporting ability.
It’s a fantastic sport for those who perhaps don’t want to be running around all the time.
- Julie Wilson
“You can be from 12 all the way up to 112.”
The first evening of night paddling will be held on Wednesday, January 16, and follows the new purchase of a dragon boat for the club.
Night paddling will be held Wednesday’s from 5.30pm at Lawson Park, past the playground area.
It’s really a sport that is taking off in the Western region.
