Council said that despite its best efforts, they have made the difficult decision to cancel Flavours of Mudgee 2020 due to the evolving situation around COVID-19 and recent outbreaks.
Council has made exhaustive attempts to investigate modified Flavours-style micro events that minimise crowd numbers - even delaying the event date until later in the year - however the potential health risk was considered too significant as a food and wine event.
"Sadly, Flavours is just not logistically possible with current physical distancing requirements," Council's general manager, Brad Cam said.
"We understand this will come as a disappointment to many, none more so than us given this is our flagship event which injects $2 million into the local economy annually.
"Unfortunately, the situation around events and COVID-19 has become very unpredictable and we could not in good conscience proceed with Flavours given the potential risk to our community, stallholders and attendees."
Mr Cam said Flavours of Mudgee will return in September 2021.
"We look forward to celebrating the return of Flavours of Mudgee next year," he said.
"I am confident our region's biggest wine and food event will return reinvigorated showcasing the best our local winemakers and food producers have to offer."
