In a bid to keep the community and beyond safe in unpredictable times, the MCCGC committee, along with Moolarben Coal, made the decision last week to postpone the event until 2022.
Given the numbers the event has attracted in previous years, Moolarben Coal Celebrity Golf Classic founder Peter Mayson says while it is a disappointing outcome, it is something that was necessary.
"In the current environment with COVID-19, we had to have a meeting about what we could and couldn't do. We decided it is the safest for all celebrities and players that in the current environment we just postpone for this year [2021]," Mayson said.
"It quickly came apparent that with the restrictions, we haven't got the control we need over those interstate boundaries or seating at the golf club.
I'm beyond disappointed, this is a golf event that helps out my club, the local club and puts Mudgee on the map, but the reality is what it is.

"We thought it would only be fair to give those who would be returning enough notice that it isn't cancelled, just postponed. It also makes it easier for myself and Peter Sterling to say to the celebrities that we have a definite decision instead of leaving them in a 50/50 world of question."
The Classic would have been celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2021, and to date, has been the instigator in raising upwards of $300,000 for local charities.
Moolarben Coal General Manager, Steve Archinal shares in the opinion that postponing the event is the best and safest option for all involved.
"Due to the uncertainty around the current pandemic, we support the committee's decision to postpone next year's Celebrity Golf Classic. While we are disappointed with having to postpone the event, we look forward to another great day of golf in 2022," Mr Archinal said.
Mayson ensures 2022 will be 'the best one of all time' with sponsors and committee members eager to make up for the gap.
"All sponsors want to make the 10th running of it the best one of all time, so we've got some very big plans for our 10th year and we really want to make it the best by far," he said.
The 10th Moolarben Coal Celebrity Golf Classic will be held on the first Friday of February in 2022.
