We were pleased to have Rob Ingram as our guest speaker, a journalist from Country Style who hilariously entertained us with his presentation titled 'Scones are Sexy'.
He praised CWA as being creative and an effective lobbyist for change, that we have never been more relevant and up to date with the everyday realities of equality and justice.
Rob then led into many funny quips about food, from comparing old fashioned mutton dish called Drover's Dream to twice-roasted salmon cheeks with parmesan polenta and cinnamon grilled rhubarb then to a Domino's pizza.
He reminded us of the days when sheep's tongues in jelly and stewed trip and onions were popular household fare, resulting then trouble of getting the smell out of the house, being compared to a bed pan in a renal ward.
In conclusion, Rob noted that scones were real food and should never be compared with fad food.
Our 14 branches gave an overview of the work they have done in the last year despite the restrictions of being unable to meet during this year which also meant being unable to fundraise as normally would happen.
Involvement with CWA Awareness Week in September, with this years' theme to raise awareness of Domestic Violence.
Despite the limitations of the COVID-19 situation, our members still helped out throughout their communities from Baradine to Ilford and all places in between.
From drought at this time last year to the bushfires which impacted badly on many of our members, especially in Ilford-Running Stream area, but they rallied with help to our fire-fighters and then to Blaze Aid to help restore things to some normality.
We also congratulate Betty Croake for her 70 year service to CWA.
The AGM was chaired by Bronwyn Dunston of Hunter River Group and elected as follows were: our new president Wendy Baldock from Purlewaugh, executive member: Barbara Gow, secretary: Gail Preston, treasurer: Marg Baxter, international: Margaret Skropeta, agricultural and environmental: Pam Hurley; cultural: Joy Beames; handicraft: Sue Nicholls; land cookery: Margaret Weatherley and Wendy Williams as assistant; vice presidents: Pat Anderson, Anne Chapman, Jenny Lloyd, Michele Southwell; publicity and minutes secretary: Lynne Robinson; our patrons: Shirley McQuiggin, Irene Bassett.
