And while principal Caron McDonald said that for many the mention of the instrument "might bring back somewhat unpleasant memories of childhood" and "the squealing, whistling sound of the recorder when it's played badly", the soundtrack at Lue is a different story.
"When we mentioned to parents that students would be learning to play the recorder this term, we were met with some trepidation, some were worried about abuse to their eardrums, some were worried they'd have to buy earmuffs or at least noise cancelling headphones. But that's definitely not the case, students have embraced learning the recorder with gusto," she said.

"For some it's their very first taste of playing a musical instrument, for others it's a different instrument to try. For all of them we were pleasantly surprised at how popular it has become.
"Students are choosing to practise at lunchtime and can often be found wandering around playing.
"If it's a new 'thing', the current flavour of the term, that's fine. But if nothing else, students are proud of what they are doing, learning something new and it's a skill that transcends all abilities.
"Anyone can shine, and right now, they all are stars in our eyes. Watch out 'Australia's Got Talent' - future performers in the making."
