Previously located on Church Street, the salon headed by Katrina Curry, now calls the former 'Simply Devine' site home after extensive renovations that were completed early this year.
In the beginning of the business, it was the early 2000s, and it was a then 19-year-old Katrina Curry on her own until she was later joined by Jenna Knight. Jenna is approaching her 10th anniversary with the business; "It feels like yesterday, it went so quick," Katrina said.
The business grew steadily in the years following. And the quest for change began in July 2020, amid the Coronavirus pandemic, which not only resulted in a location change but also a new name from Katrina Curry Hairdressing to K + Co Hair Lounge.
"We closed the salon in March last year for four and a half weeks because of COVID, then when we opened again, there were a lot of changes with space so I decided we needed a bigger shop," K + Co Hair Lounge owner, Katrina said. "There's ten of us so we all couldn't work at the same time, the business had also grown so much that we really needed a bigger space."
"It's not just me anymore, there's ten of us here now so it was time to change the name and represent who we are."
The process from vision to reality took approximately six months, and although it's something different, Katrina said the reviews from clients have been encouraging.
"I had some photos of what I liked, then I worked with Kelsie Sibley from Mae + Co, she was amazing. I gave her all my ideas and then she put it through to plans. We then had Callander Constructions do the building, and they were really good and easy to deal with," Katrina said.
"We had a few clients say they felt like they were in the Northern Beaches, it was really nice. It's fresh and open, completely different to what we've ever had before."
