Although the Henry Lawson Festival did not go ahead this long weekend with its street closures and parade, the spirit of the weekend was alive with the Gulgong Arts Council Art Exhibition, Scarecrow Stroll and Markets in the Memorial Hall.

With only a few months of organisation, the Arts Council curated an exhibition of mainly local artists. Even with more than one hundred entries, it was smaller than the UneARThed Exhibition of previous years, however the variety of art and crafts drew many favourable comments and sales. The winner of the People's Choice award went to Jessie Bantock for her piece "Gypsy Beauty".
The Scarecrow Stroll brought Herbert Street alive with colour with entries stretching from the Memorial Hall to the CWA Hall. The People's Choice award went to the Neely Kids with their scarecrow "Rags to Riches". Archie Watt won the traditional category with his scarecrow "Donk" and Happy Days Childcare Centre won the recycled category with their scarecrows "Happy Days Bunch".
The markets were well received by the visitors and added a welcoming atmosphere with the variety of hand-made merchandise for sale.
"I would like to acknowledge the efforts of both the 2021 Art Show and Scarecrow Stroll teams for the last hectic months of organising. Whilst not everything went to plan their hard work and ideas paid off in the end. Thank you Toni, Sue, Annena, Kay, Les, Richard and Bruce. Special thanks to Jessie and to the Neely family," Robyn Andrews, President of the Gulgong Art's Council said.
"I would also like to give thanks to Moolarben, Mid-Western Regional Council and McGregor Real Estate for their ongoing support of our events and the Gulgong Timber and Hardware for transporting our art stands to and from the Memorial Hall." she said.
